  1. No. This isn't freedom of religion, either.
  2. I can tell you that it's a form of terror. Can you imagine being a minority religion and hearing the imam giving a sermon about how all the unbelievers should be killed?
  3. Neighborhood noise pollution!!!
  4. It's called a minaret, and I used to see them all over the place when I grew up on the American compound in Saudi Arabia. All stores would close and all TV stations would go blank 5 times a day during "Prayer Time," and we'd hear the prayers coming from the minarets. If it abides by St. Louis noise ordinances, I don't see what the problem is.
  5. Hahahaha! I would HATE to live in that neighborhood! There is a mosque one block away from me in Kuwait, and I can hear the 5+ calls to prayer/Allah is great "chanting" with no difficulty at all. Although I now can sleep through the first call to prayer, which is at 5:10am currently and is moving earlier as the sun rises earlier, getting used to it is difficult. I suppose, under our constitution the Muslims do have the right to build a minaret, but they do not have the right to break noise ordinances, I hope the city passes a law forbidding certain noises before 8am and after 10pm. I Love going away from Islamic countries b/c I don't have to hear the loud man yelling at me multiple times each day.
  6. We have freedom of religion. I hope we don't lose freedom from religion. Be ever vigilant.
  7. Islam will grow in the west, in spite of people standing against it. And it is being allowed to be constructed after consultation among Americans. You can have a church, temple but not a mosque, it is not acceptable in America? You can have loud music on streets all night long but not a call to prayer for 5 minutes at a time. Then where is freedom? for which America stands so much for. How much you try to suppress a thing that much it will grow.
  8. Well apparently it's not being constructed to be used as a loudspeaker, merely as a symbol (I read through the comments that refer to an actual news article). http://www.myfoxstl.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=5831619&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2.1 http://locomotivebreath1901.blogspot.com/2008/02/107-ft-muslim-minaret-in-st-louis.html So, if as they say it is just symbolic, and not going to be giving calls to prayer - it breaks no noise ordinances and does not infringe on anyone else's religious beliefs.
